Unsure of his future the band’s founder, Tom Baker of cult grunge band Nexus Bloom, turns 30 and decamps to South East Australia for three months of recording. In ninety days he delivers the alt-rock album of the year.
Miners Club’s second album, Land (below in Showcase Tracks), is so drenched in confusion, loss and regret that it is no surprise to learn of the milestone age of it’s creator. But the introspection is only half the story and the album is propelled by a songwriter’s rampaging quest to thrust himself ever further out of his comfort zone. The ghosts of wrong turns and missed opportunities are gradually overwhelmed by he who seeks out the brave new world that is surely just round the corner.
